Helen's Hill 2017 The Smuggler Pinot Noir was heavily awarded this year.

Updated: Jun 25, 2021

Halliday wine companion 2021 and Huon Hooke at The Real Review have awarded The Smuggler Pinot Noir 2017 some outstanding reviews!

Our Single Clone Pinot Noirs are a real passion project for everyone at Helen's Hill so reviews like this are exciting rewards for the efforts of our viticulture and winemaking teams. Read on to see what they had to say.

James Halliday- Halliday Wine Companion 97/100

“Abel clone, Selectiv’-harvested, destemmed and crushed, open-fermented, 20 days on skins, matured for 11 months in French puncheons (30% new). The magic of the cool ’17 vintage suggests some whole bunch when in fact none was used. Savoury complexity creates drive and intensity, spicy/foresty notes to the fore, and linger long on the finish and aftertaste. I love this style of pinot.”

Huon Hooke- The Real Review 95/100

“Medium to deep red colour with a glint of purple. It has a very fragrant aroma of spiced strawberry, fresh herbs, red cherry and raspberry, a delicious array of aromas and flavours, the palate silky-soft and finely-textured, long and harmonious. Some foresty, bunchy notes, well-judged and subtle. A gorgeous pinot. “

We only produced 120 6-packs of this wine due to low yields in 2017 so stocks of this wine are extremely limited. This is a must-try for lovers of our Pinot Noir so make sure you order yours before it is too late.
